Finding Your Purpose

Updated: Apr 23

"Metaphysical Messages"

Ahhh, the age old question, "Why am I here?"

It takes some people a really long time to figure out what their purpose is, and some never do. A few find it at an early age. In truth, it takes some soul searching and sometimes you need a little guidance to help you figure out what your purpose in life is.... And yes, each person has a purpose for being here, for coming here and experiencing life in this human form. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.

I hear it from people all the time, "Am I just here to live, sleep, eat, go to work and watch television?" In my opinion, no. Meanwhile, they are profoundly unhappy. It's like they are trudging along meaninglessly. The superficial things of this world are very transient and can be very unfulfilling or only make you happy for brief periods of time.

But how will I know, you ask, my purpose when I have found it? The question to ask yourself is "What brings me joy and fuels my passion?" You will know it because you will feel it in the very depths of your soul. It will be the driving force when you get up in the morning. It will turn on a light in your heart and mind, like flipping on a switch of creative energy.

The answer is different for everyone. For some people it is creating beautiful music or art. For others it is charitable or philanthropic work. They may be talented in inventing new things or discovering scientific breakthroughs. Or it could be as simple as being a part of a family and having deeply loving, satisfying relationships. I know many who advocate for children, animal welfare or the environment. It may be speaking up for others through campaigns to make a shift in consciousness towards a kinder, more equitable world. And a few of us hear the call to ministry. These are just a few examples.

Whatever your purpose is, whenever you discover it, it will fulfill you. There will be a clarity and "Ah-Ha!" moment. Plus it will not be fleeting and will remain steadily with you over time.

On the flip side, if it is not in line with God's purpose for you, it will become very clear that it is not your path as it will just not feel right for you.

"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good."

- 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace."

- 1 Peter 4:10

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."

- Romans 12:2

"Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it."

- Buddha

"Whatever we might consider our ‘life purpose’ to be, there’s one purpose we all have; to live life fully, to explore all there is to explore within and without ourselves and – as Siddhartha Gautama said – “to discover your world and with all your heart – give yourself to it”.

- Excerpt by Emma Newlyn

There are Spiritual Gifts as well as talents and abilities that God in Infinite Wisdom has given us. We all contribute uniquely as manifestations of Spirit. Each of us has an important part in the Divine Oneness of all creation.

I pray you find what brings your Spirit joy, love, peace and passion!

God bless you, have a great week and Namaste.
